Ghana Law Reports

The Ghana Law Reports are the published record of decisions of the superior courts of Ghana. LawandLegal indexes both the reported series and the far larger body of unreported Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court judgments delivered since 1992, so counsel can search them as one library.

The reporting series

Ghana Law Reports (GLR)

The principal series of reported decisions of the superior courts, cited in the form [1993-94] 1 GLR 1. Reports carry headnotes, counsel and the full text of the judgment.

Supreme Court of Ghana Law Reports (SCGLR)

Reports confined to decisions of the Supreme Court, cited as [2003-2004] SCGLR 420. Frequently the authoritative citation for constitutional and appellate points.

Digests and unreported judgments

Many High Court and Court of Appeal decisions are never published in a bound series. They are cited by suit number and date of delivery, and remain binding or persuasive on the ordinary principles.

How to research a judgment here

1. Search by concept, not just citation

Type the legal question — 'estoppel by conduct in land litigation' — and the library returns the passages that answer it, each anchored to the judgment it came from.

2. Confirm the citation

Every result shows the court, the date of delivery and the reported citation where one exists, so you can quote the report rather than a paraphrase.

3. Check whether it still stands

Citator signals show whether a decision has been followed, distinguished, doubted or overruled by a later court before you put it in a submission.

4. Save it to the case

Attach the passage to a case file so the authority travels with the pleading, the affidavit and the eventual bundle.

Cite with care

A digital copy is a research aid, not a substitute for the official report. Where a decision appears in the GLR or SCGLR, cite the reported version; where it does not, cite the suit number, the court and the date of delivery.
