Supreme Court of Ghana judgments
Search the rulings of Ghana's final appellate court by the issue you are arguing, read the passage in the judgment it came from, and check how later benches have treated it before you put it in a submission.
Why its rulings bind everyone below
Final appellate court
Article 129 of the 1992 Constitution makes the Supreme Court the final court of appeal in Ghana. Its decisions bind the Court of Appeal, the High Court and every lower court.
Original constitutional jurisdiction
Under articles 2 and 130 the Court alone hears actions on the interpretation or enforcement of the Constitution, and questions referred to it by other courts.
Supervisory jurisdiction
Article 132 gives the Court supervisory jurisdiction over all courts and adjudicating authorities, exercised through certiorari, prohibition, mandamus and quo warranto.
Departing from itself
The Court is not bound by its own previous decisions and may depart from them where it considers it right to do so, so the sequence of rulings on a point matters as much as any one of them.
